Report: \"SNL\" To Address Diversity Issue With New Cast Member

(New York, NY) -- "Saturday Night Live" cast is reportedly making room for a new cast member in January. Sources tell "The Hollywood Reporter" the sketch comedy series is poised to add a black female player in response to criticisms about the show's lack of diversity. "SNL" apparently held two showcase auditions of entirely African-American women this month. The auditions, held in New York and Los Angeles, are said to be the first in the history of the sketch series to focus exclusively on minority females.
"SNL" poked a little fun at the diversity controversy in October when guest host Kerry Washington was kept on the run playing a slew of black female celebrities ranging from First Lady Michelle Obama to Oprah and Beyonce. The show has not had a black female cast member since Maya Rudolph left the series in 2007.
