(Undated) -- A Maine scientist is launching a major study of the cancer risks facing firefighters. Dr. Susan Shaw conducted a smaller study of firefighters in San Francisco and she's now beginning a 20-year research project in the Pine Tree State. She plans to test and analyze the blood of at least 50 firefighters every five years to monitor the how many develop cancer and to see which chemicals might lead to the disease. Shaw has spent the past 30 years studying the health risks of exposure to chemicals.
