(Undated) -- New York City is a pedestrian's dream. Walk Score's 2014 ranking of the most walkable American cities puts the Big Apple at number one. San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia and Miami round out the top five. The rankings are based on nearby amenities including food, entertainment, shopping, schools and parks, as well as easy access to bike lanes, ride shares and public transit. Walk Score says the typical American family spends 20 percent of their income on transportation, and wastes countless hours on long commutes.
