Kerry: Scheduled Execution Could Hurt Diplomacy

(Houston, TX) -- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is warning Texas officials about their plans to execute a Mexican national. "The New York Times" reports Kerry sent a letter in September to Governor Rick Perry discussing the planned execution of Edgar Arias Tamayo. Kerry says putting Tamayo to death could make it harder for the State Department to negotiate the release of Americans being held captive overseas. Tamayo is scheduled to die in January for killing a Houston police officer in 1994. A Perry spokesperson says Tamayo shouldn't get special privilege because of his country of origin.
