CDC Says Vaccines Help Reduce U.S. Flu Cases

(Atlanta, GA) -- Federal health officials say flu shots are effective in reducing the number of cases nationwide. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccinations prevented an estimated six million cases of the flu last year and nearly 80-thousand hospitalizations. That reflects a 17-percent drop in the number of cases that would have occurred without the shots. CDC officials say the data highlights the need for increasing flu vaccinations this year.
