(New York, NY) -- Senator Chuck Schumer says it will take new sanctions to get Iran to give up nuclear weapons.
Speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press," the New York Democrat said ratcheting up sanctions and not reducing them will be the best way to avoid war and get Iran to give up their nuclear weapons capability. Schumer says it was tough sanctions that brought Iran to the negotiating table. President Obama said in a news conference Friday that there's no need for new sanctions legislation. Schumer disagrees, saying tougher sanctions will make Iran "negotiate better and give up more."
Senator Chuck Schumer of New York says many in Congress still feel Iran is not being truthful about its intentions.
Schumer says the U.S. must stand firm against Iran.
