(Undated) -- Babies born in Germany can be identified on birth certificates as male, female, or "indeterminate sex." There's no actual listing for "indeterminate" but parents are now allowed to leave the gender box blank. German officials say the new policy is designed to remove pressure on parents to make quick decisions on sex assignment surgery for babies born with male and female characteristics. As many as one in two-thousand people have characteristics of both sexes.
