(Los Angeles, CA) -- Taylor Swift led the way at Sunday's American Music Awards. The country-pop superstar picked up four trophies, including Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Female, and Favorite Country Female. Taylor's fellow genre-hopping star Justin Timberlake also had a big night. He nabbed three awards including both Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist. One Direction won their first two AMAs for Favorite Band, Duo or Group and Favorite Pop/Rock Album, while Ariana Grande was named New Artist of the Year. Hip-Hop newcomers Macklemore and Ryan Lewis used their win in the Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop album to acknowledge the late Trayvon Martin and all the other victims of racial profiling. Other winners included Florida Georgia Line and Nelly, Imagine Dragons, Luke Bryan, Marc Anthony, and Rihanna, who was given the inaugural Icon Award by her mom.
This year's AMAs took place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles with Pitbull serving as master of ceremonies. Katy Perry opened the show with her new single "Unconditionally," and Miley Cyrus closed things out with "Wrecking Ball," which she sang in front of a screen featuring a giant lip-syncing kitten. Lady Gaga also took the stage for a little "president's mistress" role playing with R. Kelly, while One Direction, Imagine Dragons, TLC, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna all performed as well. The 41st American Music Awards were broadcast on ABC.
