(Washington, DC) -- State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki says Secretary of State John Kerry's trip to Kiev will send a strong signal of support to the Ukrainian people. In a telephone news conference, Psaki was pressed about the situation in Crimea after Russian troops moved in. There are reports that the Russians have given Ukranian forces a deadline to surrender. Psaki called that possibility a dangerous escalation and said the U.S. would "hold Russia directly responsible" for whatever happens. The U.S. and allies are pushing Russia hard to pull forces out of Crimea.
