Light Pollution Clouds Skies Near Observatory
(San Antonio, TX) -- Light pollution is threatening the vitality of a leading research observatory in the Davis Mountains. "The Express News" reports dark skies around the McDonald Observatory near Fort Davis are vanishing from light associated with drilling activity in West Texas. The observatory founded in the 1930s has been part of many landmark projects including measuring the distance from the earth to the moon. Oil and gas executives say they're looking at ways to safely reduce light pollution in the area.
