Massachusetts Man Dies Hours After Taking Ice Bucket Challenge
(Nantucket, MA) -- A Massachusetts man is dead in a diving accident hours after raising 100-thousand dollars for ALS. Corey Griffin was in Nantucket to do fund-raising in honor of his friend, Pete Frates, whose struggle with ALS spawned the Ice Bucket Challenge. Nantucket Police say around 2 a.m. Saturday, Griffin dove into the water from a building, rose to the surface briefly, then sank. An off-duty lifeguard recovered the body. Griffin was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Ice Bucket Challenge has become a social media sensation, where people post videos of themselves dumping a bucket of ice water over their heads, then challenging friends to do the same. Facebook says the challenge was inspired by Frates, a former Boston College baseball player with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
