(Weslaco, TX) -- A nonprofit is scrapping plans to buy a Weslaco hotel to house immigrant children left at the border. BCFS Health and Human Services announced yesterday it wasn't going to spend almost four-million dollars to buy the Palm Aire Hotel and transform it into a shelter. The nonprofit blames misinformation on why the plan was scuttled. KRGV had previously reported the nonprofit received a multi-million-dollar federal contract to house the children. Non-profit officials say the cash wasn't coming from the government.
