Russia Reopening Cuba Spy Base
(Undated) -- Russia is going to reopen its spy base in Cuba. The Russian business newspaper Kommersant reports Cuban president Raul Castro and Russian president Vladimir Putin wrapped up an agreement to open the base during Putin's visit to Havana last week. Cuba shut down the base in 2001 under U.S. pressure and because it couldn't afford to keep it open. The Soviet Union set it up in 1964, and several thousand military and intelligence staff there intercepted transmissions in and out of the U.S.
