Target Comes Out In Support Of Gay Marriage
(Minneapolis, MN) -- Target is announcing its support for same-sex marriage. The mega-retailer did so in a friend of the court brief in a case that was before a federal appeals court in Chicago. By finally making its stance known, Target is joining other American corporations such as Facebook, Nike and Apple in openly backing same-sex marriage in U.S. courts. Target has faced plenty of criticism in recent years for failing to take a stand on same-sex marriage.
As recently as 2010, Target donated 150-thousand dollars to MN Forward. That organization created ads for anti-gay Minnesota candidate for governor Tom Emmer. A firestorm of criticism forced CEO Gregg Steinhafel to issue an apology to Target employees that said "our decision affected many of you in a way I did not anticipate, and for that I am genuinely sorry."
