Three Shot Ahead Of NY's West Indian Day Parade

(New York, NY) -- One person is dead and two wounded after a gunman opened fire into a crowd just before New York's West Indian Day Parade began. Several shots also shattered the windows of a police van in the area, injuring a police detective inside the vehicle. The shooter was chased down and arrested. NYPD officials say police will continue to keep a heavy presence at the parade, which in years past has been rocked by other shootings and violence.
