(Washington, DC) -- The Pentagon says U.S. airstrikes were carried out against ISIS militants around the city of Amirli in northern Iraq today. The military actions were authorized by President Obama to prevent Islamic terrorists from attacking civilians in the area. Humanitarian aid drops were also made to coincide with the strikes. The Pentagon says the operation will be limited in scope. U.S. strikes using fighter jets and drones hit ISIS rebels near the Mosul Dam earlier in the day.
